Popcorn is bad for dogs.
That's the question that is on most pet owners' minds. While popcorn is good for dogs, it can also be harmful to pets if they are exposed to certain seasonings or additives.
Some popcorn does contain harmful additives such as sodium and artificial flavoring, which can be bad for your pet's health if consumed in large quantities. If you do want to feed your pet popcorn, it is recommended that you check out organic brands without any additives or healthy recipes that can be made at home.
Corn isn’t toxic for dogs in general. However, large amounts of corn can cause stomach upsets and diarrhea. Cornstarch and any other food that contains corn are also toxic. If your pet is accustomed to eating popcorn, they must be well-hydrated.
Dogs shouldn't be exposed to seasonings.
- Garlic powder and chili: Studies have shown that these seasonings can cause stomach cancer in dogs.
- Cinnamon: This ingredient is dangerous for pets since it can cause nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and even worse seizures.
- butter and salt: Sugars and butter can be safe for dogs, provided they are used in moderation. But, excessive amounts of these substances can cause stomach problems.
- Any additives you'd add to your own popcorn (such as dijon mustard): Dogs should avoid these seasonings just like you would because they contain harmful ingredients that can be poisonous to them.
- Ketchup This condiment causes severe allergic reactions in dogs due to the harmful ingredient xanthan.
